The Dangers of LNG Explosions ARE NOT Limited to LNG Tanks!

The following incredibly/deadly video of an LNG (Liquid Natural Gas) truck tanker accident, and explosion in China is not an unrealistic possibility in not only the United States, but also our back yards! LNG tanks are used all around the United States and were designed to provide an additional natural gas source for heating our homes in the winter time during high demand peaks, which is what they were originally designed for in the 1970′s. As natural gas supplies have increased in supply and reliability over the years (Shale Gas etc.) these same LNG tanks are now also used by gas companies to generate a profit by using a practice called “Peak Shaving”.
This is established when the LNG tanks are filled during the summer months when natural gas prices are the lowest of the year due to less demand pushing the price of natural gas down. The gas companies then save the LNG gas in the LNG tanks until the coldest months of the winter when the natural gas prices are peaked at their highest due to demand, and then inject the pipeline with LNG gas they paid much less for back in the summer, yet still charge their customers the same high “peak” natural gas price which is known as “peak shaving”. This generates millions for the gas companies even though ratepayers pay for gas in the summer at a lower rate, and pay to maintain and run the LNG tanks and their staff. Yet the companies are allowed grab the millions in profits from the higher gas prices charged in the winter (peak) time!
People who live in close proximity to these LNG tanks have long been concerned about a potential breech of these LNG tanks which would quite likely result in a true & deadly disaster, with significant destruction of property and loss of life. A real concern is the fact LNG storage tanks have been identified by the U.S. Terrorism Task forces as being a confirmed target by Al-Qaeda and other extremist groups. For example, in Massachusetts (which has the most LNG tanks in the nation) the delivery of LNG via. ocean barge into the Boston Harbor has been the subject of much debate in the past with regard to public safety, especially since the LNG shipping source has often been from the country of Yemen, which is well known for terrorist activity!
While the concerns of shipping billions of cubic feet of LNG gas through Boston Harbor are more than valid, and something I oppose myself. At least those deliveries are provided under heavy security by the Coast Guard, FBI, Boston Police/Fire and the harbor is actually shut down while the LNG is offloaded to an LNG facility in Everett. The real danger is much more serious and starts AFTER the high security escort delivery into the Boston Harbor (and other ports) ends! How does the LNG offloaded in Boston Harbor end up filling up the LNG dozens of tanks around the state as much as hundreds of miles away??
You are NOT supposed to know this!! There is no magical underground and fortified pipeline delivery, or an above ground impenetrable & heavily guarded pipeline! The LNG is loaded in to regular tanker trucks you will drive by everyday that are delivering many other fuels on a regular basis. However, these tanker trucks are equal to tons of TNT if detonated, and usually travel under darkness of night or early AM so the average citizen is in bed sleeping and would not likely notice these bombs on wheels, especially due to those pesky placards required to identify their dangerous cargo (if actually used!). They wouldn’t standout to the public since there is NO police or security escort whatsoever! Yet, these trucks are making thousands of trips right outside your front door on a more than regular basis. Would you want this massive BOMB driving anywhere near your neighborhood? Or traveling alongside your car with your family? Especially since these tanker trucks are not designed to protect against simple attacks by basic weapons like the LNG tanks themselves are likely to be, that also have containment pools around them to contain a breech from spreading. If a tanker truck is breached, extremely flammable LNG will spill readily towards people, cars and homes. And the vapor cloud will spread even further extending to countless ignition sources creating a massive explosion!
This is likely the most dangerous and the easiest accessible threat (by terrorists) to the public in our nation and unknown to the public! Take a look at the following attached video of one of these very same LNG tanker truck failures in China. This could be on your street, on your highway or near your home or kids school!
