Last week, on the one-year anniversary of the San Bruno explosion, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission released it’s draft Environmental Impact Statement on the massive new natural gas pipeline that Spectra Energy proposes to build between New Jersey and New York City.

To date, most of the opposition to the project has been coming from New Jersey, but an organization called the Sane Energy Project has been working hard to increase awareness of the pipeline and its potential affect on NYC — and now that the draft document has been released, there’s a fairly limited time frame for the public to weigh in on it.

The Sane Energy Project has a great set of links to the FERC report, which is daunting in its length to say the least, but they’ve managed to break it down into digestible chunks, and the site will help you submit your comment on the project, too.

Definitely worth a look if you’ve got the time.

Interested persons should ask FERC about the problems Iroquois Gas’s new compressor station located in Brookfileld CT is experiencing as complained by residents. Besides the station itself major operational changes allowed by FERC to the (1 Iroquois -24 in installed 1990) 1400 psig MAOP for Iroquois, and the (2 Algonquin- Spectra – 30, 36 in installed 1953, 1966) 600- 800 psig MAOP since mid 2009 have caused an Low frequency acoustic problem through out teh area. It is causing unrelenting in home hum noise , ear pressure and vibrations. It acts like a seismic wave even casuing pool surfface water to vibrate and also create surface standing waves. Besides the effects on us, there is an impact to the pets and wild life in the vicinity. This is not regulated, so this recently discovered phenomena is being willfully ignored by everyone that benefits from this industry. It needs to be investigated and fixed.
