An Aug. 20 natural gas explosion at a pipeline owned by Enable Midstream Partners, a subsidiary of CenterPoint Energy and Enogex, left a 20-foot crater and lit up a nearby barn.

National Grid employees took nearly 90 minutes to shut down the flow of natural gas the fed a massive fire that ignited when a 12-inch natural gas pipeline ruptured in Bedford, Massachusetts, on Aug. 14, according to documents obtained by NaturalGasWatch.org. The aftermath of the San Bruno explosion on Sept. 9, 2010, that left 8 people dead and destroyed 38 homes. A California Superior Court judge ruled that PG&E customers will bear nearly half the estimated $2.2 billion it will cost to upgrade the company's natural gas transmission lines to prevent a similar accident in the future.
